A new approach to gay travel 

ALYSON - What's in the name?

In creating Alyson Adventures in 1995, founder Sasha Alyson (left) continued a long history of breaking new ground in the gay and lesbian community. Sasha had previously started one of the country's earliest gay publishing companies, Alyson Publications, in 1980. It quickly became the leading publisher of lesbian and gay books, with an emphasis on providing books for gay teenagers (such as Reflections of a Rock Lobster and Young, Gay and Proud!) and for children, including the controversial Heather Has Two Mommies.

Sasha also founded Boston's gay newspaper, Bay Windows, and in 1987 he initiated an industry-wide program to publish the book You Can Do Something About AIDS, the most widely distributed AIDS book of the time. His varied activities have earned him the first Lambda Literary Award for Publishing, and the "Publisher of the Year" award from the New England Booksellers Association.

As a leading gay entrepreneur, Sasha has appeared on Larry King Live; been published on the editorial pages of the New York Times; and been named to Out magazine's "Top 100" list of influential gay men and lesbians.

Sasha Alyson sold his publishing company in 1995, and now brings that same spirit of innovation to the world of gay and lesbian travel.

ADVENTURES 

Our trips are active, outdoor vacations, offering the camaraderie of a small, friendly gay group, for people who are skeptical of the concept of "group travel". On our biking or hiking trips, for example, you can follow our suggested route with the group; take the same path at your own pace; or independently explore different roads and trails. The active nature of our trips makes it easy to get to know others in the group.
